VETERANS - SPECIAL MARKERS: Civil War veterans often have two markers - one provided by the family and another with valuable historical information that may help you learn more about your ancestor ("Co. M, 4 IA. CAV."). World War I veterans also have special markers. These special holders beside veterans' graves were holding brand new American flags on 4th of July 2001; they were still in place and fluttering in the wind when the photos were taken on July 7, 2001. It was a magnificent and moving sight!
